Falling sand tutorial

Hello

I have gone through the falling sand tutorial and understand why the problem was modelled the way it was. Now, the problem in the tutorial was solved in a 2D axisymmetric coordinate system. When I tried to re-apply the modelling strategy to a 2D planar system, the results are way off what is expected. Anyone knows why?
